but says she if you play us a tune
we won't have to pay for the drink

it wasn't that long playing some tunes
when young folk came pouring in
each had a jug in his fist
and they heartily drank our health
there was no lack in spirits here
though drink was scarce at the time
and if I drank 'Ó Donnell's gallon'
I'd still have been free of the reckoning
